When my husband I were thinking about having a baby, I wasn’t entirely sure where to start other than the obvious, however I quickly learned that it could and often was more complicated than that. As I began googling I became overwhelmed with topics about ovulation tests, diet, timing of intercourse, how often to have intercourse, basal body temperature, cervical mucus, when to test, symptoms of pregnancy, and the list just went on.
Here are the books that I found the most helpful on my road to conception
1. Get Ready to Get Pregnant
This is the perfect book to start with! The book is written by a doctor from UCLA, so the advice is some of the best out there in my personal opinion. He explains the science behind what he says but it doesn’t feel to complicated for the average reader. It covers a lot of important topics, including how and why to get healthy before trying to conceive, in addition to information for your husband or parter to read before trying to conceive. For everything he suggests he gives a why and it makes for a powerful message!
This is a wonderful book before conceiving, postpartum or even if you are trying to avoid pregnancy but don’t want to use traditional birth control options. Understanding your cycle is key, whether you are trying to conceive or trying to avoid pregnancy. Not only will this book teach you how to understand your cycle but it can help reveal some fertility issues in advance. This book led me to realize something was wrong and to talk with my doctor, I was later diagnosed with PCOS and able to receive help in both managing my condition and to achieving a healthy pregnancy.
